Climate Quick Tip: Tap Out On Wasted Water The average faucet runs two gallons of water per minute. During your two minutes twice a day of brushing your teeth, this could mean four gallons of water down the drain. Turn off the tap while you brush your teeth to reduce wasting water. Make a change in your daily bathroom routine to avoid wasting water.

Climate Quick Tip: Free the Water If you are disposing of a plastic water bottle, or find one that has been thrown away halfway full, make sure to pour out any remaining water into a nearby planter or tree — or even down a drain. Doing so will ensure this water goes directly back into the water cycle rather than staying trapped in a bottle. Pour out any remaining water from bottles a into a nearby planter or tree, or even down a drain. And check out Bluedot’s story about an ingenious reuse for plastic bottles.

Climate Quick Tip: Forgot the Leftover Kale? Compost It! Anything organic that can't be consumed can be composted and used to nourish your garden and start the cycle over again. Use a countertop composter to turn all of your food waste and scraps into nutrient-rich fertilizer. Less waste, more plant-friendly soil. Composting saves garbage waste and creates good garden fertilizer. Bluedot loves the Lomi, available in our Marketplace.

Climate Quick Tip: Put Down That Duster! …except for twice a month. Mix this non-toxic solution to make your furniture shine for longer, with a cup of water, ⅓ cup of vinegar, a small amount of olive oil and a teaspoon of lavender essential oil. Lemon or orange do a lovely job as well. Shake, spray and rub it in. Your home will smell lovely and you’ll enjoy the reprieve from dusting so often. A solution of water, vinegar, olive oil and lavender essential oil as a spray for dusting will last up to two weeks.

Climate Quick Tip: Use a Bottle and/or Travel Mug Bottle-filling stations are becoming more available, and your local coffee shop is probably happy to fill your mug. Avoid single-use bottles and cups, and, if you like fizzy drinks, get yourself a SodaStream or AArke, and carry the bottle with you. Avoid single-use mugs, especially plastics. A good alternative is a SodaStream or AArke carbonator.
